CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) – With two impending winter storms expected to hit the region at the end of this week, officials around the county are reminded residents that parking regulations will be strictly enforced.

The first storm is expected to arrive Thursday night going into Friday morning, with one to three inches expected to fall. The bigger storm is expected to hit Saturday into Sunday. This storm could possibly drop a foot or more of snow.

Residents of the City of Elmira are encouraged to abide by Odd/Even parking regulations where applicable and to utilize off street parking if and when available to assist snow removal efforts.

Additionally, in Southport, street parking is prohibited on all town streets until April 1.

Additionally, residents are also reminded that during and following winter storm cleanup, throwing, depositing, dumping and or placing snow upon any highway or within the limits of the right of way of a highway is a violation of New York State Law. Depositing snow in the roadway only hinders cleanup efforts and creates hazardous conditions.
