ALBANY, NY (WENY) -- With more frigid temperatures on tap, New York State wants to make sure no one is stuck in the cold.

More funding is being made available through the Home Energy Assistance Program or HEAP.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced $15 million for people facing a heating emergency.

The application period for homeowners and renters has also been extended.

Residents can now apply for help through the end of April.

The statewide demand for emergency HEAP benefits remains high, with more than 35,000 households seeking assistance so far this year.
