New York State Trooper side-swiped on I-86 in Corning
CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) – A New York State Trooper was injured on I-86 in Corning Wednesday after police say he was helping with traffic control.
According to New York State Police, around 9:00 Wednesday morning, Trooper Jacob Wackowski was on I-86 eastbound helping with traffic control at a weather-related accident when he was side-swiped by a passing tractor-trailer.
Troopers say Wackowski had his emergency lights on.
He was taken to Corning Hospital for minor injuries and the driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as 53-year-old Troy English of Buffalo, was ticketed for Failure to Obey the Move Over Law, as well as other violations.
Additionally, Troopers say English has numerous warrants for Identity Theft in North Carolina and violating a court order to pay a fine in Pennsylvania.
English was sent to the Steuben County Jail on $500 bail.
Troopers say the investigation is ongoing.
