Next round of NY state's farm grants announced
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Another round of funding is available for New York farmers to help them reduce their impact on the environment.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says $2.3 million is available in the fourth round of the state's climate-resilient farming grant program. The Democrat says the funds can also help farmers better prepare for and recover after extreme weather events such as floods or droughts.
Since it was started in 2015, the program has provided more than $5 million to 40 projects statewide. Farms have used the funding to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote energy savings and mitigate water and soil quality concerns.
The funding is included in the state's $300 million Environmental Protection Fund.
Cuomo's state budget proposal for the next fiscal year includes another $5 million for climate-resilient farming projects.
