Troopers remind drivers to "move over" after patrol hit by semi
KINGSTON, N.Y. (WENY) -- New York State Police are reminding drivers to "move over" if they see flashing lights on the side of the road. They're making this plea after one of their patrol cars was hit by a tractor trailer.
NYSP says one of their patrol cars was hit on Interstate-87 in Kingston on Wednesday afternoon. Police say the Trooper was inside of his car after pulling over to help a stranded driver, when it was hit by a passing tractor trailer. The tractor trailer also pushed the disabled car, which was in front of the patrol car, hitting someone on the outside of it who was changing a tire.
The Trooper and the bystander were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The tractor trailer driver was ticketed for moving from the lane unsafely, and violating the move over law.
As a reminder under New York State law, if you see any flashing lights, you need to move over and slow down. But if you absolutely cannot move over, you are supposed to slow down and move over as much as possible.
