SOUTHPORT, N.Y. (WENY) -- An Elmira man is behind bars after being accused of burglary in Southport. His arrest comes after a string of burglaries in the same neighborhood he was taken in custody.

23-year-old Roland Coates was arrested and charged with one count of burglary after being arrested last Wednesday -- that's according to the Chemung County Sheriff's Office.

Coates was reported arrested when deputies were patrolling the neighborhood on Sunset Road in Southport around midnight. The Sheriff's Office says this particular area had reports of recent home and car larcenies. Police say they spotted a suspicious pick up truck with Coates standing next to it. It was later discovered that Coates allegedly burglarized a nearby garage -- and took stuff from inside.

He was sent to the Chemung County Jail without bail.

The investigation is ongoing -- and if you have any info regarding burglaries in the Sunset Road area contact the Sheriff's Office at (607) 737-2933.
