BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- Celebrating young people and their efforts to overcome challenges on their path to becoming successful. The 28th annual Jack Lisi Youth awards recognized 14 young people this year.

On Friday night, at the American Legion in Bath, awards were given out for overcoming challenges, being model citizens, and most importantly - helping others. Although there were no specific categories for the awardees, they all represent the very best of our community. The award is named in memory after Jack Lisi, the former Steuben County Sheriff.

Gary Pruyn, Secretary and a member of the Board of Directors with the Jack Lisi Youth Organization, explained "These young people are often overlooked, that's one of the criteria, and not recognized for achieving some really major things in their lives, some major obstacles, and these young people have done wonders and they're being recognized for this."

Each student who was recognized was awarded $1,000 to help with tuition, or any other college related cost.
