Children, adults receive free bike helmets through local organization
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Dozens of kids and adults in Chemung County who ride bikes are safer. The Southern Tier Bicycle League gave out free helmets at the Eastside Farmers Market Friday.
Typically these are given out on an annual basis to kids in the community, but this year, organizers wanted to include adults. The goal behind the expanded give-out is for adults to serve as good role models, not only for the kids, but for other adults as well.
"We are pushing parents and seniors to set good examples, to be there, to show them how important it is to be wearing a helmet," say Kent Goben, Chairman of the Southern Tier Bicycle League.
Today also marked the start of the Eastside Farmers Market. It's been a staple in the community for the past decade, providing the community with affordable locally grown food.
