Local law enforcement handing out ice cream tickets to promote bicycle safety
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) – Local law enforcement are teaming up with the Traffic Safety Board and the Southern Tier Bicycle League again this year to promote safe bicycling with kids.
Local kids seeing wearing a proper bike helmet while riding around will be given an “ice cream ticket” by police. The ticket is good for free ice cream at the following companies:
- The Dairy Barn
- Fair Shake
- Lickety Split
- Rita's Water Ice
- Serendipity Ice Cream & Coffee
- Sweet Frog Yogurt
- Last Stand
Officials say they hope the program encourages bicyclists regardless of age to wear a helmet and other necessary protective gear to keep themselves safe while they're out riding.
