WGI Does Final Preparations as Cars Hit the Track for Race Weekend Friday
WATKINS GLEN, NY (WENY) - Just one day away from the big race weekend at Watkins Glen International, the track made its' final preparations on Thursday before cars hit the track on Friday.
One person that plays a key role in getting the track ready is Tony Vickio, who has worked at WGI for 33 years. Vickio takes care of all of the painting that needs to be done on the track. WENY Sports Director, Griffin Haas spoke with Vickio about the process throughout the years of getting the track ready for the big weekend.
The races kick off on Friday at 4:45 PM when the green flag waves for the Great Outdoors RV Superstore 100 in the K&N Pro Series. Those racers will practice earlier in the day at at 11 AM then will qualify for the race at 3:30 PM.
The Xfinity Series for the Zippo 200 will also practice on Friday at 12:35 PM and 2:05 PM.
