Horseheads' Joey Sindelar, Elmira's Mary Anne Widman Levins to be Inducted into NYSGA Hall of Fame
HORSEHEADS, NY (WENY) - Two of the Southern Tier's best golfers will be inducted into the New York State Golf Association Hall of Fame in their home county come October.
Horseheads native Joey Sindelar and Elmira native Mary Anne Widman Levins have been selected to the 2019 NYSGA Hall of Fame Class. New York City native John Baldwin and Flushing's Walter Travis round out the class. The induction ceremony will be held at the Elmira Country Club on Saturday, October 5th.
Sindelar was the NYSGA Men's Amateur Champion in 1980, and went on to win 7 PGA Tour Events. He still competes with the PGA Tour Champions, and will return to the Southern Tier this weekend (August 16th - August 18th) for the Dick's Sporting Goods Open at the En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott.
Levins is a two-time NYSGA Women's Amateur Champion (1982, 1983), a three-time All-American at Duke University (1982, 1983, 1984), and holds the record with 12 collegiate tournament wins at Duke. She was also the College Player of the Year in 1984.
