Elmira Irish Festival is getting underway

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Saturday, the Elmira Hibernians are celebrating their 36th year of hosting the Elmira Irish Festival. The festival will be taking place at the Hibernian Center on Kinyon Street in Elmira.
It's a day long event where the community and families comes together to enjoy everything Irish! There is live entertainment, Irish step dancers, food and drink vendors, Irish merchandise and more.
In addition to the day long celebrations, the organizers say they also hold a unique ceremony.
"My favorite thing is to see friends and family. We have a beautiful flag ceremony at 5:00. We have that every year. Typically they change the flags out, the Irish flag with the American flag. We also try to pick a community service to remember, in the past we've done the fire department. I believe this year we're doing the police department," says Mary Ellen Allington, President of Lady Ancient Order of Hibernians.
The event will go from 1:00 to 10:00 p.m. with a $2.00 admission fee.
All of the money raised will go to charities with some being youth sports and local food banks.
