Elmira, NY (WENY) -- As election season rolls around, one Town of Elmira resident looks to join in the races and be elected to the town board.

Joe Coletta held a campaign fundraiser at the White Eagle club, near Elmira College. The 37 year resident, who lives right near Hendy Avenue said he believes the town is going in the wrong direction. Coletta said it's time to get some new faces onto the board. He is running on a number of issue, among them being tightening up on code violators. Part of his platform includes working to fix up zombie properties and chase absentee landlords. For one of his first initiatives, Coletta hopes to provide more accessibility to town board meetings. He noted that too often when the meetings happen people are either unavailable or working. Coletta wants to broadcast meetings similarly to the way the Chemung County legislature has implemented it.

“I'd like to open up the government to some new faces. it's been kind of closed off the last 15, 20 years or so and i think the time is right. I'm retired now so I’ve got the time to designate to help the people.” said Joe Coletta.

Colette has billed himself as being on the conservative line but a candidate for anyone. His party is known as "Have A Voice".
