Village of Owego implements 'CodeRED' emergency notification system
OWEGO, N.Y. (WENY) – The Village of Owego announced they've contracted with OnSolve to license its CodeRed high-speed emergency alert system.
Officials say the system allows village officials to quickly deliver messages to targeted areas or the entire village in case of emergency.
Owego Mayo Michael Baratta cautioned that the system is only as good as the phone number database.
“No one should automatically assume his or her phone number is included,” Baratta said.
He is urging all residents and businesses to log onto the village website and follow the link to the “CodeRED Community Notification Enrollment” page. You can also text OWEGO to 99411 to enroll your information.
Those without internet access may call the village clerk's office at 607-687-3555 to give their information over the phone.
Required information includes first and last name, street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes), city, state, zip code, and primary phone number, additional phone numbers can be entered as well.
Officials say all businesses should also register, as well as individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, who have changed their phone number or address within the past year, and those who use a cellular phone or VoIP phone as their primary number.
Baratta stated, "CodeRED gives those who want to be included an easy and secure method for inputting information. The data collected will only be used for emergency notification purposes." Questions should be directed to the village clerks office at 607-687-3555
