PHILADELPHIA, PA (WENY) – A woman charged in the shooting death of her boyfriend in Philadelphia has received her sentence.

Jeanette Wakefield was convicted of the murder of Terry Corrigan IV in a trial this past July. A judge ordered her 3 ½ to 7 years behind bars. The boyfriend was shot to death in an apartment building two years ago.

Wakefield apologized for her actions on Friday and said she loved and cared about Corrigan.

Investigators say the victim was trying to get into his girlfriend's apartment in September 20217 when he was shot in the face. Reports find that two children were inside the apartment during the time of the killing.

Wakefield's attorney argues that the client fired the gun out of fear.
