Trick-or-treating safety tips to think about before celebrating Halloween
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Many parents are making their way to stores like Party City, getting their children costumes for Halloween. However, there's a few safety tips that are important to keep in mind and could make the occasion more enjoyable for all participants.
On the trick-or-treat trail, experts say it's a good idea for the kids to wear reflective tape on their costumes as well as have it on their trick-or-treat bags. Staying in a group and communicating where you'll be going can also help to prevent anyone from getting separated. According to officials, when it comes to receiving candy, parents should inspect their children's candy to see if everything is wrapped correctly.
"I would just make sure that all of the candy is wrapped properly. If the wrapping is torn or tampered with at all, just discard the candy all together. Always air on the side of caution, if it doesn't look right, toss it out," said acting Chemung County Sheriff, Bill Schrom.
