CORNING, NY (WENY) -- This evening the League of Women Voters of Steuben County hosted a Corning Candidate Forum at the Southeast Steuben County library. This year, seats on the county legislature and the Corning City Council will be on the ballot. Corning City Mayor, Bill Boland, is up for re-election and he's going up against Elizabeth Whitehouse. Here's what Boland had to say first.

"Well, I think I have the experience to continue doing good work that we've been doing in the City of Corning, we've got many initiatives that we are undertaking and I think I have the experience and the background to accomplish it," said Boland.

Mayor Boland also believes that his first two years in office are a success, but two years is not enough for significant improvement. The other mayoral candidate may be fighting an uphill battle, but is up to the task and believes one issue should be the spark for your vote.

"Well because, as I've said this evening climate change is very important and we can not afford to carry on with business as usual. We need a really completely different approach," said Whitehouse.

Whitehouse also said that even though she doesn't have experience as mayor, she has been heavily involved around the community which shows a strong community bond. Election Day is just around the corner and these candidates are just getting started on their push for office.
