ELMIRA, N.Y.(WENY)--  Kittens are always popular and usually adopted out fasts at local shelters, leaving the older and larger cats behind. Because of this problem, The Chemung County SPCA came up with a new initiative called Fat Cat Friday, where they have waved their adoption fees on their feline friends weighing over ten pounds. The staff at the shelter are hoping this will only be a one-time event but, they told WENY news that they will continue this Friday initiative until all of the large furry friends have good homes.

"We want to get them out of here and into homes because they all need more space right, because their big cats, so if we don't get them out of here today, then we're going to continue our Fat Cat Friday's until we get all of them into good new homes," Tom Geroy, Executive Director of the Chemung County SPCA told WENY News.
