Hornell, NY (WENY) -- The North Hornell volunteer fire department is investigating the circumstances surrounding an early morning fire at a church.

According to the fire department, they were dispatched to the fire, around 7:45am to Station Church. The firefighters were able to get control of the small blaze in just under 5 minutes. They said a parishioner who was getting ready to open the church was hit by a wall of smoke, but luckily there was only minor smoke and water damage and no one was hurt.

The fire is alleged to have been started after the church was vandalized. However, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
