ELMIRA, N.Y.(WENY)-- It may only be Christmas Eve but the Elmira Enforcers made it feel Christmas at the First Arena Tuesday afternoon. For the second year in a row, the Enforcers reached out to their community for help and support as they wanted to give back to those in need.

"I think this is the true meaning of Christmas, this is honestly what it is all about. I think that everyone in the community should do as much as they can to give back to the community which we all live in," Kim Bourgeois, a volunteer, told WENY News.

Local hairdressers volunteered to come in and provide free hair cuts for everyone who came in. Along with the haircuts, the team was able to provide coats and other winter gear, which was donated, along with other hygiene necessities. After making it through the pick up lines, those who attended were invited to join the players on the ice for a turkey lunch. The players told WENY News that they were more than happy to provide for the community who comes out and supports all of their home games.

"It's a great feeling you know? You get to see them when you're out on the ice in a game, you see the faces but you never really get to talk to every single one of them off of the ice so it's a nice time to get to meet the people that come and support you and it's a great feeling for, like I said, the whole organization," says  Ahmed Mahfouz, Forward for the Elmira Enforcers.

The final count has yet to come in but Owner of the Enforcers, Robbie Nichols, told WENY News that he loves being able to help those in need and thinks this years numbers were higher than last years.

"Last year we fed approximately  300 people and we don't know what we're going to have today but we are prepared because we have 250 pounds of potato's and over 200 pounds of turkey and we're ready and  just want everyone to have a merry Christmas," says Nichols.

Nichols told WENY News that he hopes to be able to put on this event for many years to come.
