Fanboys Cafe Opening in the Arnot Mall

HORSEHEADS, N.Y.(WENY)-- The owners of the Fanboys Cafe has not opened their doors just yet, but they invited WENY News in for a first look Wednesday morning. The owner of the new cafe, Christian Vanschoick, is only 18 years old, but is more than excited to get his first store open.
"Well honestly, it's one of the best feelings that I have ever had. When the waslls were coming down, it's the first thing I've ever done. I've had jobs before, but having something that is my own kind of thing, to open up is a great feeling," says Vanschoick.
Christians dad helped him get when it came to getting the funding together for the cafe, but he wanted to stress how this project is his sons baby.
"It is definitely a proud father moment, again watching his dreams, the hard work that he has put into it and watching them come to life. It's pretty magical for a father," says Dave Vanschoick.
Christian's father tried to start the Fanboys Cafe a few years ago, but he sustained a shoulder injury, so he had to close down the business. Because of this, Christian wa inspired to restart what his father had once begun.
The cafe is completely geek-themed, which Christian compares it so a sport bar, but for geeks. He explained to WENY News that the geek culture is on an uprising right now, which is why it is a perfect time for him to open his cafe. No only has Christian been the head of this store, but he was also responsible for all of the decorating around the store.
"Well I love decorating the place. When the first cafe opened, my grandmother came in and said it looked like a work of art and I don't know, I liked that phrasing. I think it does too," says Vanschoick.
Some of the menu items you can look forward starting Friday are Stranger Wings, Demi- Dogs, Starks Raving Salad, and Stark Raving Salad.
The grand opening of the cafe will be at 11 a.m. and you can find the cafe in the Arnot Mall food court.
