CORNING, NY (WENY) -- Recently, the Gaffer District came up with a fun and local touch to demonstrate how the community should be social distancing. The promotion shows various items, when standing side by side, to show people what 6 feet looks like but in a different form. Here's the twist, in the posters all of the examples are things that you can buy in the Gaffer district.

We spoke with Executive Director of the Gaffer District who says this is a way for people to stay connected with the Gaffer District and to show that they are still here for the community.

"We are trying to stay connected with the people that love our downtown. We want to remind them that all of the businesses that they have loved and supported through the years. Whether it's a great meal or shopping or going to our galleries and enjoying what they have to offer. It' all still there," said Fabrizi.

Also, we spoke with Executive Director of the Gaffer District Coleen Fabrizi on why they decided to show it this way.

Fabrizi said, "As you know, the Gaffer District is all about the incredible experiences that people have grown to love in our downtown, and so just thinking about some of those are, we came up with the little cheeseburgers, the shoe purchases and so on and so forth. Talking about that social distancing and how many of those items would fit in a 6 foot social distancing," says Fabrizi.

Fabrizi also says the shop now buy later promotion is working great and that we should also help Elmira Downtown Development as they have adopted a similar promotion.
