STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) --  Steuben County is looking to Washington as they await to learn more about the county's financial future and how the next stimulus bill could help or hurt them.

"With the economic shut down that happened back in the spring obviously that had a huge hit on businesses of all sizes in Steuben County throughout the state and throughout the nation. That has a direct impact on sales tax which is one of the major sources of revenue in the county," says Jack Wheeler, Steuben County Manager.

Wheeler expressed his concern to WENY News as his county might not be doing the worst compared to other counties, but they are not doing the best either.

"Obvious very impacted but not down as much as some other counties across the state but we are still down significantly and there still are economic impacts, there still are businesses that are operating, maybe not at full capacity. So we continue to see a loss of sales tax revenue," Wheeler tells WENY News.

He told WENY News that he is hoping there will be more revisions made to the stimulus bill, as there is nothing included to help at the state or more specifically at the local level in terms of more funding.

"There is no state or local funding in that bill as written and propose by the republicans," says Wheeler."Hopefully, cooler heads prevail because the real issue is if state and local governments aren't given any form of relief in revenue that we lost, there will be a significant impact upon services. The state has already said if that stimulus funding does not happen, that we're going to be looking at a 20 percent cut of state aid."

Wheeler said he is hopeful for the future, but said we all just have to wait and see.
