CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Chemung County Sheriff's Office announces the arrest of five people after conducting an operation targeting illegal activity at local hotels.

The Chemung County Sheriff's Office said "Operation Take Back the Streets" is a collaborative effort with local law enforcement and the public working together to address crime.

List of subjects arrested in sweep:

CODY J. CADE, age 30, and KATLYNN M. TAYLOR, age 27, both of Elmira, NY, were arrested for Criminal possession of Marijuana in the Fourth Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, both Class A Misdemeanors. CADE and TAYLOR have been linked to illegal activity at multiple hotels in the Village of Horseheads and Big Flats. The arrests were made following the execution of a search warrant at the Econo Lodge in the Town of Big Flats.

KERSTYN M. BUCK, age 23 of Lindley, NY, was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a class A Misdemeanor.

TROY J. MORTIMER, age 24, of Burdette, NY was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a class A Misdemeanor. The arrest was made following enforcement efforts at the America’s Best Hotel, Village of Horseheads.

SHELBY K. BENNETT-GRIPPO, age 27, of Elmira, NY, was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant out of the Town of Southport Court charging her with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a class A Misdemeanor, and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana in the Second Degree. Further charges are anticipated for BENNETT-GRIPPO. The arrest was made a result of enforcement efforts at the America’s Best Hotel in the Village of Horseheads.

The Chemung County Sheriff's Office said the defendants were released on appearance tickets due to New York State bail reform laws.
