As our storm passes this evening, another shot of cold air will be dragged along with it. Not only will this storm drag cooler air, but an area of low pressure that will miss the East Coast Thursday will drag part of the Polar Vortex into the Northeast which will drop temperatures into the teens for afternoon highs Friday. A strong Canadian high pressure system will sit to our northeast and with the return flow coming out of the north, bitter cold air will return locally.

We will be cooler starting Wednesday, but the Arctic air does not settle into the Twin Tiers until Thursday afternoon and it will likely sit across the region until Sunday evening. The winds will also begin to pick up out of the north, starting Wednesday night, which means the air temperature will feel much cooler than what the thermometer reads. Highs Thursday will be near 0 degrees, and with breezy conditions expected, it will feel much cooler and many areas will experience wind chills near 0 once again. For Friday it is even colder, highs will likely be in the mid and low teens with wind chills below zero for the majority of the day. We may also experience our first below 0 overnight low since February of last year. The cold air lingers into the weekend with wind chills Saturday afternoon near 0, but improving conditions expected Sunday afternoon after a bitter cold start. Although another cold shot of air is expected over the next several days, there is a good chance of warmer weather ate next week!
