NEWFIELD, N.Y.(WENY)-- The Newfield Public Library has partnered with the Newfield Historical Society to expand and open a History and Activities Center. This center will sit adjacent to the public library and there are plans for it to open sometime in March.

Through this expansion, the historical society will be able to double their space allowing more room to display Newfield's history.

Sue Chaffee, director of the Newfield Public Library, said this will allow anyone working on geology to be face to face with the historical society.

“It will be a front-row seat on Main Street for community members to be able to come in and enjoy seeing the history,” said Chaffee.

Chaffee said with a full kitchen available in this new space the library will be able to utilize the kitchen for programming.

“Cooking classes, cooking demos, we want to tie Newfield's culture and food and history together,” said Chaffee.

Previously the library had been sharing separate floors on one building with the historical society but with this expansion, the library will be able to utilize the top and bottom floors of the library as well as the building next door.
