WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) -- A Yates County man is facing multiple felony charges following a  high speed chase in Watkins Glen Tuesday morning. Police say the suspect is the man authorities were looking for Monday in connection to a home burglary earlier this month.

28-year-old Jonathan E. Shearin has been charged by the Watkins Glen Police Department,as well as the Schuyler Co. Sheriff's Department.

According to the Watkins Glen Police Department, around 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, law enforcement took multiple calls concerning a man walking down S. Decatur Street in the proximity of Watkins Glen High School.

The description of the suspicious man matched the details of a person of interest for the police department regarding a burglary at a house from April 16th.

Police say, when the first officer to the Decatur St. area arrived on scene, they attempted to speak with Shearin, but he ran away.

When another officer arrived on scene, police reportedly saw the suspect hiding behind a home. The officer started chasing the suspect through the back yard. The man jumped over a fence and continued on foot through the school parking lot where another officer was waiting for him.

Shearin then jumped into a car, according to police, and began to speed away. He then reportedly sped out of the school parking lot in a dark colored SUV, at one point nearly hitting a Schuyler County patrol vehicle. The car then drove through a yard, ran a stop sign and continued on.

Officers say they then began the pursuit which went West on 15th Street, and continued on State Route 414 Southbound, eventually out of the Village of Watkins Glen.

Schuyler County had the lead car in the pursuit as the Watkins Glen Police Department continued,with cars reaching speeds of over 100MPH.  The New York State Police also helped in the chase.

After a lengthy pursuit, police say, Shearin jumped from the car. That's when he was  quickly apprehended by Deputy K-9 Digit, and taken into custody by officers.

The Suspect was then identified as 28 year old Jonathan E. Shearin, of Dundee NY, who was actively on NYS parole out of Yates County.
Shearin was treated by Schuyler Ambulance and the Tyrone Fire Department and transported to Schuyler Hospital for minor injuries and released to the custody of the Sheriffs office.

The Watkins Glen Police Department charged Shearin with the following;

Burglary in the Second degree, a class C Felony, Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, a class E Felony, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the second Degree, a class A Misdemeanor, Violation Trespass and several other vehicle and traffic violations.

The Schuyler County Sheriffs office charged Shearin with the following;

Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a motor vehicle in the third Degree, a class A Misdemeanor, Reckless Endangerment in the second Degree, a class A Misdemeanor, Reckless Driving, a misdemeanor, SPEED IN ZONE, 115MPH in a posted 55mph zone, and several other vehicle and several other traffic violations.
