CORNING, N.Y. (WENY)-- The Corning Family YMCA had a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil a new recreation center to service families in the community.

The renovated area is called the Adventure Center. The new space is an indoor playground and features places for kids to climb, including soft landing areas and more.

The Adventure Center was originally used as racquetball and squash courts. A part of the project was courtesy of the Corning Incorporated Foundation. The foundation awarded the YMCA a $50,000 grant for the project.

"For the first time we are offering an opportunity for families to come in and play together, so family time will be by reservation, they can come in with their children and experience what we have to offer with infants right up through age twelve in this wonderful room," said Gail Hostuttler, Executive Director of the Corning Family YMCA.

This new Adventure Center was over a year in the making. It was delayed due to COVID-19.

Hostuttler says they are excited to have this new space for families and the community.  Families are thrilled to have this new play space to bring their kids.

"It's just wonderful this looks like one of those giant playgrounds for the kids you know, and to have this included with the membership is phenomenal,” said Joe Goodman, a parent and long-time member of the Corning Family YMCA.

The Executive Director added they are thankful for the many supporters that made this happen. They also have a special promotion on May 24th and May 25th, membership fees will be waived.
