Towanda, PA (WENY) -- A new restaurant and bar opened its door for the first time, right in the heart of downtown Towanda.    

"Towanda On The Rocks" was originally a smokers lounge, known as captain jacks, but thanks to owner Taylor Smith, captain jack’s got a breath of fresh air. Smith said with help from family and friends was able to repurpose and clean the inside, and hang up classic pictures, some tracing back over half century.

He says "On The Rocks" will be able to offer something very much needed on Towanda’s Main Street. They'll offer a variety of food that will be available up until midnight.

“I think to have a nonsmoking establishment that is right on the strip on Main Street in Towanda, to easily drive in and out and to come in and get take out and us pushing food we… we would be limited if we were smoking,” said Smith.

Some work still needs to be done. Taylor said they'll be putting in central air, and an additional bar space. Their kitchen is open until 10:00 pm with the fryer food available until midnight. Their menu can be found here.
