SAYRE, PA (WENY)- The Milltown Fire Department is raffling off keys to a classic fire truck. But if you won what would you do with it?

The Borough Manager says you'll have easy access to parades such as the Christmas parade. He also says the truck is worth $20,000 but don't expect a backup camera or a whole lot of bells and whistles. However, he explains it’s still in pretty good condition.

This is not just any fire engine. It's a vintage blue and yellow fire truck put into service over two decades ago and officially out of commission for the past two years. Now it's a collector’s item or it could be a good truck for a smaller fire department.

"This is our 1993 KME fire engine that the borough took out of service back in 2013 after we bought a new fire engine,
David Jarrett, Borough Manager of Sayre said.

Now they no longer have a need for it and it’s taking up space in the garage. They thought outside of the box and decided to raffle it off for $100 and give members of the community a chance to win it.

"We've been watching what other towns do and what other fire departments have done and down in south-central Pennsylvania we saw where a few fire departments have raffled off their fire trucks for $100 tickets,
Jarrett said.

To make the deal even sweeter, 100% of the proceeds go to helping two local organizations.

"Divided evenly between the Sayre Historical Society Museum and the Sayre Public Library who had setbacks last year,” Jarrett said.

The truck does need a little TLC, including the gaskets for the pumps, a new hose, and new batteries.

However, it does have new tires, it will come with a ladder and the Borough of Sayer will place new batteries in it.

This truck has been around the block. It has 14,000 miles and has responded to many floods and fires. Jarrett does have a funny story to share when the truck needed to be serviced.

"When they were getting on the Pennsylvania turnpike they accidentally hit the siren so they got waved through the toll booth and then someone said why is there a Sayre fire truck 80 miles away from Sayre responding to a fire alarm,” Jarrett said.

To enter a chance to win this fire truck you will need to purchase a raffle ticket from the Borough of Sayer. The winner will be selected at their end-of-summer celebration on August 28th. If your ticket is selected you don't have to be present to win.
