CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- A Corning man was arrested Friday morning on a bench warrant after police surrounded the home that he was hiding in.

According to Corning PD, 58-year-old Thomas J. Savino was spotted by officers standing in front of his home on Decatur Street around 10:45 a.m. Officers say when Savino saw officers, he "retreated" into his home and slammed the door. Police say Savino is known to officers, and has an outstanding bench warrant for a previous arrest. The prior charges include criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, and resisting arrest.

After Savino went into hiding inside of his home, members of the Corning Police Department tried to negotiate with Savino to come out. Afterwards officers were joined by the Steuben County Sheriff's Office, and New York State Police to surround the home. After about an hour, Savino was taken into custody without incident.

Savino was arraigned in Steuben County Court, and sent to the Steuben County Jail without bail.
