ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) – Monday, The Elmira Police Department welcomed a new officer into its ranks.

Twenty-six-year-old John Everett of Elmira Heights was sworn in at the City Hall. His mother, Victoria, pinned on his badge, and his grandmother, Patricia Gross, was also in attendance.

Officer Everett graduated from Horseheads High School before attending and graduating from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He received his police officer certification from the Elmira Regional Public Safety Training Center. Everett is a lateral transfer from the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, where he worked as a deputy in the Road Patrol Division for three years.

Including Officer Everett, EPD has 71 members in its department, just one short of the budgeted 72 positions.
