VAN ETTEN, N.Y. (WENY) – The Chemung County Health Department, in conjunction with the  Town of Van Etten, will be offering a free rabies vaccination clinic to New York State residents.

That clinic will take place at Banfield Square Park, located at Railroad Park in Van Etten. It will happen Monday, November 22 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Pre-registration for the clinic is required. The link can be found by clicking here. Masks are required.

Cats, dogs and ferrets that are three months of age or older are eligible. They must be on a leash or in a carrier and under the control of a responsible adult at all times. Dog and cat owners must bring proof of previous rabies vaccination if they wish to receive a three-year certificate for their pets.

Owners with multiple dogs are asked to bring their animals in one at a time. Once they have waited in line for one pet, those owners will be allowed to have additional dogs be vaccinated without waiting in line again. Dog owners are also responsible for cleaning up after their animals if accidents occur.

Cat owners without carriers should talk to clinic staff before removing the cat from their car.

New York State law requires all cats, dogs and ferrets four months or older to be vaccinated against rabies. Pet owners who do not comply may be subject to a fine of up to $200.

If special assistance is needed at the clinic, call 607-737-2019 to register a few days before the clinic. For more information, call the Chemung County Health Department at 607-737-2019 or email [email protected].
