ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The results of last month's Elmira City gun buyback event are in. The Elmira Police Department says they reviewed the 69 rifles and handguns turned in, and one gun was discovered to be stolen.

EPD says a turned-in .22 caliber Taurus revolver was reported stolen from a car on South William Street in Southport. The gun was reported stolen in December of 2018 to the Chemung County Sheriff's Office. Police say the gun was turned over to the Sheriff's Office, with the goal of giving the gun back to the lawful owner.

EPD says so far this year, the department has taken 177 guns off the streets of Elmira.
