ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- An Elmira businessman has announced a run for Chemung County Legislature's 13th district.

Republican Caleb Hafler announced his candidacy Friday. Hafler is a local business owner, operating Hafler Home Improvement, a construction business in Chemung County.

“Elmira is a beautiful place to live, filled with rich history and wonderful people. I want to restore a sense of pride in our community," Hafler said in his campaign release.

Hafler says he is a conservative republican, and has a vision for Chemung County and his district to be a place of growth for families, and somewhere were people want to stay. He said he wants to help small business owners, and stand up for constitutional rights.

Hafler is married with two children.

The 13th Legislative District seat covers a portion of Elmira's south side, as well as the town of Southport. The seat is currently held by Republican Scott Drake, former police chief for the city of Elmira. Drake was first elected to the legislature in 2018.

If Drake runs for re-election, he would face Hafler in a primary.
