HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) - One local hardware store is stocking its shelves and preparing ahead of Monday’s snowstorm. The Twin Tiers is expected to be hit with its first major snowstorm of the year, predicting double-digit snow totals in parts of the region.

Horseheads Do It Center encourages residents to gear up in battling the elements. The store has an array of snowplows, shovels, salts, space heaters, and other related gear in keeping locals out of bad conditions. Sales Associate Dirk Wheeler says the store is well equipped to help residents.

“We have different types of chemicals that will melt ice into different temperatures,” Wheeler said. “If you come into the Do-It Center, we could help school you on whatever your particular situation is.”

The store has been stocking up on the gear since September. Wheeler says the store stockpiling in the fall has created a large inventory for the winter.

“We stocked up on the heating supplies and the shovels ahead of time, which was a big plus,” Wheeler said. “We did them back in September and October instead of waiting until the last minute.”

The Horseheads Do It Center will be open on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. The store will also be open Monday from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.
