ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Elmira police have arrested a second person in connection to a homicide outside of The Branch Office bar in December 2021.

On Monday, police arrested 18-year-old Najer McGriff, who was wanted on a superior court warrant for 2nd degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

Elmira police say while investigating the homicide of 35-year-old Jeremy Scharborough on December 19, they discovered McGriff allegedly was seen on site with a gun and firing shots around the time of the murder.

Police initially responded around 1AM on December 19th to a report of a large disturbance involving a stabbing and gunshots. When officers arrived, a large crowd was outside, after a fight had begun inside the business and spilled outside.

Scharborough died after being stabbed in the neck outside of the bar. On February 9th, Elmira police announced they arrested 29-year-old Edelmiro Velez Ross-Toro in Rochester, after he was indicted by a Chemung County grand jury on charges of 2nd degree murder.
