Rep. Mike Kelly continues to question housing migrant children in Erie
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Mike Kelly (R- PA) grilled the Health and Human Services Department secretary over the lack of transparency for housing migrant children in Erie last year.
“Secretary Becerra I sent you this letter requesting the copy of the contract of the emergency intake site established by HHS in Erie, Pennsylvania for unaccompanied children crossing the border,” said Rep. Mike Kelly (R- PA). “You and I also spoke about it at length at our June budget hearing where you committed to getting me an answer in a timely manner, instead the Department sent me, and I have a copy of the letter. Mostly what it is: thank you for inquiring, we appreciate that and we’ll get back to you sometime in the future; never had an answer to it.”
Nearly 150 migrant children were housed in Erie’s Summit Township dormitory last year for about two weeks. Kelly took an opportunity in a congressional hearing today to grill the HHS secretary on the lack of transparency on housing those children in the dorms. He asked the secretary once again, for answers.
