ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- A traveling replica of the Vietnam Wall is coming to Elmira this summer, and people are invited to be part of the effort to honor the more than 58,000 service members whose names are on it.

The Moving Wall will be at Elmira's Eldridge Park, from June 29th through July 4th. Volunteers are wanted to help read the names of those on the wall, in a continuous reading which encompasses approximately 95 hours to complete.

Chemung County has launched a website where volunteers can sign up to read for 20 minute increments at a time. You will be provided in advance a list of 200 names to be read during the designated time slot. If you would like to sign up to read for more than one time slot in a row, you can select consecutive 20 minute time slots on the website, but you must sign up separately for each.

If you have a family member or loved one whose name is on the wall, you may also read their name at that time. People who sign up for a time slot are asked to arrive at the wall 15 minutes in advance of their reading.

To volunteer to read names, available time slots and registration form is available at www.chemungcountyny.gov/thewall.

The Moving Wall is a half-size traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. It has toured the country for over 30 years, as a way to bring the experience to Vietnam veterans who do not have the opportunity to visit Washington, DC. The wall will arrive at Eldridge Park on June 29th and be accessible by the public continuously until 4PM on July 4th.
