SATURDAY, 5/7 UPDATE: Waverly police say the female driver has been located. The driver came to the Waverly Police Station and has fully cooperated as a witness.

SATURDAY, 5/7 UPDATE: Waverly police are looking for the female driver of a white-colored SUV who was in the area of the bank at approximately 10:30AM on Friday.

Police stress the driver is not suspected in the bank robbery, but may have information helpful to the investigation.

WAVERLY, N.Y. (WENY) -- An 83-year-old woman was arrested and charged with robbery after police responded to a bank robbery in Waverly Friday morning.

According to Waverly P.D., the suspect was identified as Edna Jane Hallett of Waverly. She was charged with 1st degree robbery.

Police say they received a report of a bank alarm at the Chemung Canal Trust Company at 405 Chemung Street around 10:38 a.m. on Friday morning.

By the time that officers had arrived, the suspect already left the bank. Officers gathered information about the suspect's description, and they say they found the suspect walking on Pennsylvania Avenue, just a short distance away from the bank.

Hallett is scheduled to be arraigned, and the investigation is ongoing.

A mugshot of Hallett was not provided by police.

Hallett was listed as an inmate in the Tioga County Jail as of 6 p.m. Friday evening.
