HORSEHEADS, N.Y.(WENY)-- The Chemung County Senior Games kicked off today with their annual softball tournament. Teams from across the state of New York met in Chemung county to compete for gold medals but for Joe Gogolsky, the team manager of Pour House it's not about winning it's about having fun and reconnecting with friends.

“To me, it's about having fun, you know letting guys have a good experience, I am not one of this rah, rah, let's win at all costs,” said Gogolsky.

Gogolsky and his team drove two hours from Monroe county and this is an event that they look forward to every year.

“That's what it is, you know, comradery, friendship, you know we're from all over Monroe county and we have been together, most of us have been together 20 years,” said Gogolsky.

Carol Morton, Senior Games coordinator, said this year's senior games are being held in memory of three of the founding members who passed away and remained active their whole lives.

“It's a good thing for them it keeps them going, I have been doing this for ten years and I get to know them and see them and they enjoy this and they do it and this is their life,” said Morton.

Gogolsky said for many of the players this event gives them a way to reach out and establish long-term relationships.

“You know we like coming down here, the field is a nice complex, the people that run this, Chemung county do an outstanding job… we send them Christmas cards and stuff and they always get back to us,” said Gogolsky.
