HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Crystal Chords A Cappella encourages women of all ages to stop by their "Guest Nite" on June 14 for some singing and fun.

Crystal Chords is an all-female a cappella chorus that specializes in the barbershop style of singing. Chris Dunbar, the Director of Crystal Chords, explained how no member has to be an incredible, professionally-trained singer to join. The only requirement is that you love to sing.

"People always say they can't sing, and what they mean is they can't sing like...Lady Gaga or Barbra Streisand...and really, who can?" she said. "You don't have to be a soloist; you don't have to be able to read music. We can teach you how to read music if you would like to learn."

For many of Crystal Chords' members, the support and camaraderie in the group is the reason why they joined.

"For a lot of people, it's about the fellowship that we have," Dunbar said. "The encouragement and support of other women, and that's a huge thing because we are very much like a family. We have our crazy aunts, our grandmas, our moms and the kids. We all take care of each other and are very much a family."

Crystal Chords A Cappella's open rehearsal night will take place Tuesday, June 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Horseheads. For more information about the event and Crystal Chords as a whole, visit their website CrystalChords.com or email [email protected].
