Wellsboro Man Indicted For Using COVID Relief Funds
WELLSBORO, P.A. (WENY) - A Wellsboro man has been indicted on fraud charges for allegedly using more than $400,000 in COVID-19 relief funds to buy a vacation home in Alabama.
According to documents by the middle district court of Pennsylvania, 57 year old Nicholas Perkins allegedly took out $465,000 in loans as part of the paycheck protection program.
He allegedly wrote a $420,000 check to himself from his business "Well-Versed Oilfields LLC" to buy a beach home in Dauphin Island, Alabama. He then allegedly asked for loan forgiveness money in December 2020, claiming he used the money for his business.
Perkins was charged with wire fraud, bank fraud, unlawful money transaction, and making a false loan application.
He faces prison time of 30 years if convicted.
