Vacation rental homes on the rise in Schuyler Co. ribbon cutting for newly built homes
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY)--Vacation home rentals are on the rise in Schuyler County according to the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce. Tuesday they held a ribbon cutting for two new vacation homes that joined the Chamber.
These newly built vacation home rentals were recently completed. The owner of the homes Peter Tallarico from Baldwinsville is with Blue Ridge Unlimited. He explains Watkins Glen is one of his favorite places. He has been visiting for over 15 years so when these homes became available on the market, he jumped on the opportunity to purchase both homes and turn them into vacation rentals.
The homes are next door to each other and right in front of the KOA. The first home is named Hannah's home, that's where the ribbon cutting took place. It's a three-level home. with four bedrooms that sleeps ten. It has a huge game room on the lower level.
Next door is Gracie's house. That house is two levels, with three bedrooms, and sleeps eight. Tallarico said they've worked day and night on the homes to get them completed in time for the Summer. He says both homes are now listed on air BnB and VRO and are getting booked pretty quickly.
"It went on air BnB and VRO in April, it's been full since. We've worked so hard. I slept here on the floor working on the house for three months through the winter to get it ready. The renovations, painting, decorating getting the furniture setting the houses up and working on some of the outside stuff. We worked really hard on it to have it ready for this season," Tallarico said.
Tallarico is a girl dad and named both of the homes after his daughters. The price per night for these vacation rentals depends on the time of year, day of week, and the house. It ranges from $250 to $1,000 and also offer discounts.
"We still have openings for September once they start filling up, they do fill up kind of fast but there's still availability. We plan on making more updates and improvements. Hopefully, some hot tubs to come and thinking about putting in a putting green that could be kind of fun," Tallarico said.
