SAYRE, P.A. (WENY) - August is Immunization Awareness Month and Guthrie is reminding the communities it serves about the importance of immunizations for people of all ages.

With the ongoing pandemic and the start of the upcoming school year, Guthrie says it is more important than ever to understand how staying on schedule with immunizations helps keep people safe.

Guthrie pediatrician Dr. Sumathyuthee Kamalakannan, MD spoke today about the importance of immunizations.

"A lot of these diseases that we are trying to prevent with these vaccines affects children at younger ages says Kamalakannan. "So you want to start giving vaccines at a younger age, so we can attack that before it actually attacks them. So for example, let's say Polio or Diphtheria."
