(WENY) -- A new scholarship program is providing aid to nursing students across the Empire State this fall.

The 'Nurses for our Future' scholarship program will award tuition at multiple SUNY and CUNY campuses starting the beginning of the 2022 fall semester. The scholarship aims to rebuild New York's healthcare workforce and strengthen the healthcare system. Corning Community College's Director of Nursing Education, Krystal Jubilee, says the program will remove barriers for students.

“Oftentimes, finances are a barrier to students pursuing a higher education, especially in a community college,” Jubilee said. “This will help take away some of those barriers; money that would normally be spent on books, fees or tuition. Now, they can use that for child care or gas in their car.”
