ATHENS, P.A. (WENY) - The Athens Area School District Administration is investigating several alleged incidents of bullying and hazing on the JV and varsity football teams.

The administration was notified of the incidents on August 20th, and has since contacted the Pennsylvania Police Department. The school is fully cooperating with the investigation.

Athens Superintendent, Craig Stage said in a letter this morning that the incidents under investigation began in mid-July at a football camp at Bloomsburg University, and continue up to pre-season practices at school facilities. In response to the incidents, the district says it will both hold individuals responsible and conduct intensive, immediate training of the coaching staff and students.

The letter also stated that the school will not be canceling any football games this season saying "We do not feel that is is necessary to take punitive actions against players who did not participate in these incidents, the marching band, and cheerleaders who also perform at football games."

Athens Athletic Director, J.B. Sullivan confirmed to WENY that Head Coach, Jack Young has been suspended for the team's season opener this Friday, August 26th at home against Executive Education Academy at 7:00 PM.
