BATH, N.Y. (WENY) - September is national recovery month.

An event coming up in Steuben County aims to raise awareness and show support for people struggling with addiction.

Called "Speakerfest," people from across the country will share their experiences with substance abuse disorder. The event aims to reduce the stigma, encourage those who are struggling to seek treatment, and celebrate the lives saved.

"Everyone can play a role in recovery when it comes to addiction," said Connie Terry, Steuben Prevention Coalition Opioid Committee Coordinator. "You can reach out if you think you or someone you know has a substance use disorder. Talk to your family members, friends or your healthcare provider.

According to the US National Survey on Drug Use and Health, more than 75 percent of people addicted to alcohol or other drugs recover to the point that substance abuse no longer dominates their lives. Treatment works. Support is essential."

The event will take place on September 17th from noon to 3 PM in Pulteney Square in Bath.
