ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Meet Shakes, WENY's Pet of the Week from the Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA!

Shakes is a four-year-old female terrier mix who is all you need as your devoted companion. Shakes is selective with the dogs she associates with, and would prefer a home without cats. She is great with kids six years old and older. The SPCA is unsure at this time if Shakes is house-trained. Shakes is not spayed yet, but the SPCA will spay and update her shots before her next family takes her home.

The SPCA is partnering with EOP for Humane Education Sessions for kids ages 10 through 16. Sessions will take place September 19 through October 24, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information and to sign up, head to the SPCA's website and go to their education page.

The SPCA is holding an adoption event at the Arnot Mall on September 24. Jamie Wolf will be there with cats and kittens. For those who come, on-sight adoptions will be available.

The Chemung County SPCA is still looking for volunteers. Not only is the organization looking for spay and neuter volunteers, the SPCA is also looking for dog walkers. The SPCA is currently seeing an uptick in dogs coming into the shelter and are now looking for extra help. Applications are available at the SPCA's website.
