ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Firefighters were called out to Ernie Davis Academy for a fire on the school's roof Monday night.

According to the Elmira Deputy Fire Chief Chris Putney, the call came in around 10:00 p.m.

The initial call was just for an alarm at the school located on Hoffman Street, but a fire was discovered on the school's roof after smoke could be seen. Deputy Chief Putney said firefighters started to pull a portion of the roof apart to put the fire out. He described the fire as being stubborn, and it took some time for crews to make sure the fire was fully extinguished.

No one was injured, and Deputy Chief Putney said the damage was confined to the roof and to a nearby boiler/utility room. He said the boiler/utility room in question had water and smoke damage.

Investigators are now working to determine the cause.

The Elmira Heights Fire Department provided assistance during the ordeal.
